Yoruba Nation: Court Releases 47 Lagos Protesters On Bail, Puts One In Detention

The increase in calling for separation of Nigeria by different region within the country has made the Federal Government decided to hunt down people calling for it which led to the arrest of 48 protesters in Lagos few weeks ago.

After charging them to court to face the law, all of the 48 agitators arrested by the Nigeria Police during the Yoruba Nation rally were arraigned before a Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for alleged unlawful protest are now out on bail except one.

According to the Communications Manager of Ilana Omo Oodua, Maxwell Adeleye, they met the conditions set by the court on Monday,

The defendants, arrested on July 3 at Ojota, face a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful assembly and breach of Peace, but pleaded not guilty.

One of them still in detention, Tajudeen Bakare, was charged with two extra counts of murder and unlawful possession of arms.

Police Prosecutor, Adejoke Adebesin told the court that Bakare, during the protest shot a passerby, Jumoke Oyeleke, alleging that he used a Beretta pistol which was recovered from him.

Bakare was said to have driven a Jeep with Registration No. LSR 322 FK, and killed the deceased from the window of the car which contravene Sections 411, 168(d), 223, 330, 44 (1)(2)(3)(4) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015. (Revised)

Section 330 provides seven years imprisonment for the offence of unlawful possession of arms while 223 stipulates the death penalty for the offence of murder.


However, the court will announce the date for his trial as he was denied of bail.
