Yoruba monarch charged with blind trader in defense of his Queen

Oba Nureni Oduwaye, a monarch, has been charged with blinding a businessman named Wasiu Oduwole at the Moore Blessing Hotel in Ikenne, which is located in the Sagamu region of the state, before a magistrates’ court in Sagamu, Ogun State.

PUNCH According to Metro, the king allegedly committed the deed while he and his queen were at the hotel for a woman named Iya Alaje’s birthday celebration.

The trader was invited to make pepper soup for the ceremony, and he was accused of dancing with his queen there and kicking him in the eye.

The merchant said that the impact of the attack caused him to lose vision in his left eye, albeit he refuted the allegation.

According to our correspondent, the incident was reported to the Sagamu Area Command, where police officers assigned to investigate the situation charged the traditional leader on two counts that having to do with causing great bodily harm and disturbing the peace.

On Friday, October 7, 2022, the monarch was called to court.

The charges stated, in part, “That you, Oba Nureni Oduwaye, did unlawfully cause great harm to one Wasiu Oduwole by kicking him with the shoe on your leg on September 21, 2022, around 10.30pm at the Moore Hotel, Shagamu/Ikenne Road in the Sagamu Magisterial District, causing him to sustain great eye injury on his left eye and cause permanent blindness on the left eye, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punish


To allow for further hearing, the matter was postponed until October 19, 2022.
