Men from the Ogun State Police Command arrested a 32-year-old housewife and mother of three, Kehinde Wasiu, for allegedly spilling gasoline on her husband’s mistress, Tosin Olugbade, aged 24, and then set it on fire.

State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident on Friday, said the victim died from the burns she suffered.

Oyeyemi, in a statement on Friday, said the suspect was arrested following a report filed at Onipanu Division headquarters by the deceased’s husband, one Fatai Olugbade.

Olugbade reportedly told police that in August 2021, his wife had engaged in an extramarital affair with a certain Ismail Wasiu.

According to the PPRO, Olugbade said he was surprised his wife left her home to live with Ismail.

Oyeyemi said, “He further stated that on November 14, 2021, he learned that Ismail Wasiu’s wife had quarreled with his wife, and said Ismail’s wife poured gasoline on him and set on fire.

“The deceased was rushed to hospital by family members, but later died while receiving treatment. On the report, the DPO, Onipanu division, in Ota, CSP Bamidele Job, quickly mobilized his men and went to the place where Kehinde’s husband who had asked his wife to flee was arrested.

“The case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for a discreet investigation. The homicide team led by CSP Femi Olabode embarked on a technical and intelligence-based investigation that led to the arrest of the suspect, Kehinde Wasiu, in the Saki region of the state of Oyo.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and her husband initially lied to the family of the deceased, saying that it was cooking gas that had exploded and burned the deceased. But when the lie was revealed, the husband quickly asked the wife to run away.
