We Must Stand Against Rising Cases Of Rape In Nigeria, OOMPA Task Stakeholders
The Osun Online Media Practitioners Association (OOMPA), has strongly and vehemently condemned the rising vice that spreads faster than the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic in the country, it is now seen as a norm and virtue to be embraced by predators in the society.
OOMPA’s Publicity Secretary, Comrade Tunde Olorungbotemi reports that Rape is evil and illicit, borne out of a selfish mind towards the other party, leaving them in a state of trauma, be it a male or female.
The chairman, Jare Tiamiyu made the call during a general meeting for Osun Online Media Publishers in Osogbo on Thursday.
While reacting, Jare Tiamiyu pleaded to all parents, guardians to protect their children, give them proper care, home training and teach them the basic knowledge they ought to know about sexuality and sex education.
Tiamiyu stressed the role of stakeholders in addressing the menace, adding that statistics indicted that at least two million Nigerian girls experience sexual abuse.
“I, therefore, call on our law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to be more responsive in their prosecutions, ruling and passing judgment on perpetrators of any human being found guilty of Rape to save and secure the human right of our girl child in Nigeria. He said
“All hospital owners and government parastatals should provide an emergency section to serve as first aid response to the victims of rape to serve their life.”
