Two RCCG Pastors Suspended For Engaging In Same-Sex With Church Members
It was a surprise moment to many Nigerians when the news from the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) came out about the allegations of homosexuality involving two pastors within its ranks.
According to reports, the church has announced the suspension and investigation of Pastor Ayorinde AdeBello and Deacon Oke Mayowa, following accusations that the men engaged in same-sex relations with male members of the congregation.
The news came to light through a letter dated October 28, 2024, signed by RCCG’s National Overseer, Pastor Sunday Akande.
Addressed to the Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration, the letter detailed the church’s position on the issue and provided directives for handling the allegations.
____Pastor Akande emphasized the church’s commitment to its interpretation of biblical teachings, referencing verses such as Leviticus 18:22 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, which are traditionally cited to condemn homosexuality.
_____“In accordance with our mission’s commitment to upholding the teachings of the Bible, we must address these allegations with the utmost seriousness they deserve,” Akande wrote in the letter.
_____He reiterated RCCG’s stance, noting that “the doctrine of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) does not allow or tolerate any act of homosexuality.”
The church has ordered an investigation to be completed within two weeks, and both accused clergy members are to be relieved of all church-related responsibilities pending the outcome. Pastor Akande directed the team assigned to this task to conduct the probe “with care and integrity,” ensuring a thorough and fair assessment in line with RCCG’s values.
…..In a final appeal, Akande urged those involved to maintain confidentiality throughout the investigation process, reflecting the church’s commitment to handling sensitive issues with respect for all parties.
