Two Arrested, Many Injured As Rival Cult Groups Clash In Ibadan

Sounds of deafening sporadic gun shots boomed in Ibadan on Saturday evening, causing panic among the residents of Gege, Ita-Sakun, Ita-Maya and Oke-Ado areas of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, following a bloody clash between two rival cult groups in the area, leaving no fewer than 15 persons injured.

According to the report, Security was beefed up in the areas on Saturday evening following the bloody clashes among rival cult groups in the areas where several lives were claimed in recent past and forcing residents to flee from the high risk areas due to incessant bloody clashes among the rival cults.

As at the time of filing this report, OSUNREPORTERS gathered that fight broke out in the area as two factional groups, whose identities were yet to be known, were lurked in supremacy battle against each other, while the actual cause of the clash could not be ascertained.

According to an eyewitness, one person was badly injured during the fight that lasted more than one hour, while shop owners and residents of the area were scampering for safety in the early hours of Saturday following sporadic gunshots between the warring groups.

The source however said, that the condition of the injured person could not be determined as he was immediately rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the incident to our Correspondent when contacted, he also said men of the command had been deployed to the scene to avert total breakdown of law and order.

Olugbenga Fadeyi said, “There was a clash. The police had been in the area since the incident happened in order to calm the situation. Our men are still on the ground to make sure that there is no breakdown of law and order.”


The State Police Command confirmed that two persons (Babatunde Oladapo and Ibrahim Abisoye ) have been arrested, and the tension had been doused by security operatives in the affected areas.
