Tribunal Gives Judgement On Suit seeking to sack Gov Alex Otti
The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Umuahia has taken a significant step in the ongoing legal battle between Chief Okey Ahiwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party (LP).
In a crucial development, the tribunal has struck out two of the motions filed by the petitioner, Chief Okey Ahiwe. The dismissed motions were deemed incompetent by the tribunal.
Among the issues struck out were the petitioner’s attempt to introduce new matters and an apparent repetition of claims already presented.
The tribunal is currently in the process of reading its judgment, which will ultimately decide the fate of the entire petition, including the one brought forward by High Chief Ikechi Emenike of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
….The proceedings began promptly at 9:58 a.m., after the legal representatives for the involved parties had announced their appearances and completed the initial formalities.
The courtroom was filled to its maximum capacity, with attendees listening attentively in near silence, except for the occasional accidental phone ring, which prompted the panel to issue a stern warning against such disruptions.
Notable figures present in the courtroom included Ceekay Igara, the Chairman of the Labour Party, and Hon Ginger Onwusibe, the Member representing Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa South federal constituency from the LP.
On the other side, PDP chieftains, including former Commissioner for Sports, Barrister Esomonu, and Barrister Iroh, were also observed in the court.
As the tribunal’s judgment unfolds, the political landscape in Abia State remains on edge, awaiting the outcome of this high-stakes legal battle that could have significant implications for the state’s leadership.
The final verdict from the tribunal will determine whether Governor Alex Otti remains in office or faces a potential change in leadership.
