TOP vs IleriOluwa: Osun APC Crisis Deepens As Thurgs Reportedly Disrupt Ward Meeting
The internal issue of the Osun State rulling party, All Progressive Congress (APC) deepens as members of belonging to the former Governor Aregbesola’s camp reportedly clashed with other members supporting the incumbent governor Oyetola on Thursday within the same party.
According to the report, members of the party attending Ward meeting ran helter skelter when the IleriOluwa group and the TOP group attacked one another while the meeting ongoing.
The crisis, which happened at Ward 3, Irepodun local government, was caused by disagreement over leadership of the ward where the Chairman of the APC Elders Council and Former Secretary to the State Government, Engr. Sola Akinwunmi comes from.
An eyewitness narrated that the crisis broke out shortly after the commencement of the meeting as members of the IleriOluwa group were reading the list of the ward executives, who are products of the consensus during the last weekend party congress, while members of The Osun Progressives (TOP) stormed the venue of the meeting and snatched the paper from where the names were been read. TOP members also scattered the meeting and chased away party faithful. Another source claimed that TOP members mixed with some hoodlums disrupted the meeting process
Party members who were present at the meeting added that the meeting was put on hold as everyone left the venue for safety of their lives.
The member, who preferred anonymity, said “a self-acclaimed chairman, who emerges as Chairman from their Congress insisted on presiding over the meeting and he came with some thugs. They chase away our members but they could not hold any meeting”.
However, a member of TOP, Olaniyan Babatunde insisted that no thug was present the meeting, claiming that TOP members were the ones that disrupted meeting at Ward 3.
“There were no thugs. It was we the Blue Movement and TOP that snatched the paper that contains the names of the EXCOS that they were reading. We ensured that no meeting was held at the venue,” Babatunde said.
When asked if thugs were with the TOP members, Babatunde said, “there were no thugs and we didn’t go there with any cutlass. They (IleriOluwa group) were only running after they saw us.”
When contacted, the caretaker chairman of Irepodun local government, Barrister Adegoke Ogunsola said the meetings were disrupted by thugs but not TOP members. He said they may be sponsored by TOP members.
“Those who who disrupted our meetings were not TOP members but thugs. However, they may be sponsored by TOP Members. We held meetings despite that. So whoever says we didn’t hold meetings tells lies. There were meetings across the ten wards of Irepodun yesterday,” Irepodun Councils Boss explained.
