Three persons arrested for gang-raping 13-year-old girl
,,,,,,Three people were arrested in Anambra State for raping a 13-year-old girl by operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) acting in tandem with vigilante operators.
The arrest was confirmed by Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, the media adviser to the Commissioner for Women and Social Affairs, Hon. Ify Obinabowho, who claimed the suspects had been turned over to the police and would be prosecuted in court shortly.
“According to the victim, the accused were co-tenants with them but brought her to Nkisi river to rape her after they had a dispute with her father,” Ikeanyionwu added.
“The victim told the commissioner that she was slapped by the boys, then dragged to Nkisi and ordered to remove her clothes as the suspects took turns having carnal knowledge of her.”
….Nigerian Tribune learnt that the victim comes from Ohaozara in Ebonyi State while the culprits’ identities were supplied as Sunday, Emelie, Chiedu and Nwa awọ. While only three suspects were apprehended, the fourth, Nwa aw, allegedly escaped when security operatives raided the neighborhood of Nkpor, near Onitsha, to arrest them.
The commissioner praised the victim for her bravery in speaking out following the assault and told her that she would see that she received justice.
The commissioner went on to express her disgust with the state’s rising rape rate and warned that the Professor Chukwuma Soludo-led government will not tolerate it.
,,,,,Hon. Obinabo also thanked officers from NAPTIP, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Anambra Vigilante Group for their efforts in apprehending these individuals.
During interrogation, two of the suspects begged forgiveness, while another said he was simply there when the act occurred, but the victim insisted that he was the second person to have carnal knowledge of her.
They also stated that they decided to rape the girl because they disagreed with the girl’s father.
……Despite the fact that they have been turned up to the Police State CID Awka, they will be charged in court.
