The Journey of an Osun born DJ, Olayinka Olawale “DJ Nifty”
Once upon a time, on a bustling university campus, a young, creative student discovered his love for storytelling not through words, but through the lens of a camera. Yes, believe it or not, the Nifty you know today was once a campus photographer! Armed with a camera gifted by my dear Ustadz, Wole Muniru, I began capturing memories at social events like departmental gatherings, award nights, and more. Those were humble beginnings, and I am forever grateful for his investment in my passion.
Back then, I tried to break into the LAUTECH motion ground to explore even more opportunities, but the protocol was too complicated to handle at the time Who knows? If I had succeeded, maybe I’d be covering Asiwaju Jagaban himself today just like my fantastic brother Dada Olusegun who is now with the president.
Photography was my starting point, but it wasn’t a solo effort. I was blessed with an amazing team, my photo editor, Abdullah Jimoh, who brought my pictures and videos to life, and my then PR manager, political leader and mentor in school , Sanusi Ridwan Strikah, who helped put my work out there and market me to various departments and organizations on campus. Thank you, my brothers, you were pillars of support during those times.
While capturing moments at events, I began to notice something missing “the vibe. I would often ask the organizers, “Are we not going to dance and enjoy ourselves?” When they’d agree, I’d tell them to get their decks while I grabbed my own disc collection. I’d even rent a turntable from Mr. WESTSIDE or other senior colleagues and start freestyling as a DJ, all just to make the events more exciting and yes, I used to do them for free!
My journey took a pivotal turn when I met a teacher, benefactor, and philanthropist, Tanimola Tobi, popularly known as Aristotle. Our paths crossed during academic tutoring sessions for my chemical engineering courses, which were as demanding as they come. He intrigued by how I was handling academics and extracurriculars.
One day, in class, he said something that changed my perspective: “If you could put more effort into these extracurricular activities, especially DJing, you might just find light at the end of the tunnel.” Those words ignited a fire in me. We are still searching the tunnel though 😀. I remember how Bolaji Dauda Ahmed borrowed me a laptop when the Djing became digital as well. I can’t thank you all enough
And the rest, as they say, is history.
Today, the Nifty brand is much more than just DJing. We have evolved into a full-fledged event company offering sound equipment rentals, lighting solutions, event consultancy and management, and stage design. Very soon, we’ll officially unveil this arm of our brand to the world.
But that’s not all! This year, we’re hosting another thrilling event tagged “Beyond the Box” with the theme “Working Hard for the Audience” at the prestigious Club Zeus. This is my personal invitation to YOU, the amazing reader, to come and support your favorite event enthusiast.
Thank you to the Creator, to the incredible people who believed in me, and to my hardworking, passionate self for never giving up.
Let’s keep creating magic together. I love you all.
