student Arrested for Poisoning her Benefactor

Officers from the Ogun State Police Command arrested 18-year-old high school student Tope Fasanya for allegedly poisoning the food of her guardian, Mrs. Esther Bada.

State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi in a statement on Tuesday said the suspect was arrested following a complaint filed by the victim.

Police spokesman said the victim said her maid served food to her and after eating the meal she felt a sharp pain in her stomach and became sick to her stomach. ‘easy.

He said, “When the pain got severe, she called the maid to come and eat the rest of the food, but she refused. This made her suspect of a criminal act on the part of the maid.

After the report, the victim was quickly taken to Owode-Egba General Hospital, from where she was referred to the Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta, for appropriate medical treatment. The suspect was subsequently arrested.

During questioning, the suspect initially denied and was transferred to the homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.

“Upon arriving there, she made a confessional statement that she had in fact added rat poison to the victim’s food.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had been living with the woman since she was in third grade and the woman was his teacher at the time.

“Following the death of her father, the victim volunteered to help the girl by taking her to live in her house, and from there she was able to go to school on her bill.

“It was the victim who sponsored the education of the suspect up to his current class.
“When asked why she decided to kill her benefactor, the suspect, who described the victim as a very caring person, said that she only wanted to return to her mother and that she could not do so only if his guardian was no longer. ”


The PPRO said state police commissioner Lanre Bankole ordered the suspect to be brought to justice upon completion of the police investigation.
