State Assembly Declares Member ‘s seat Vacant Over Defection

Kwara State House of Assembly has declared the seat of lawmaker representing Ojomu-Balogun State Constituency in Offa Local Government, Saheed Adekeye Popoola vacant.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Engineer Yakubu Danladi announced this on Thursday on the floor of the House during today’s plenary, nothing that the declaration of Saheed Popoola’s seat vacant is in consonance with Section One-Zero-Nine subsection One of the constitution as amended

The Speaker pointed out that the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria is clear as Popoola ought to have vacated his seat at Ojomu-Balogun State Constituency of Offa Local Government having defected from All Progressives Congress APC to Social Democratic Part, SDP


Engineer Salihu submitted that the House has therefore informed Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kwara State of this development last Monday for further legislative action as Ojomu-Balogun State Constituency is now vacant with Saheed Adekeye Popoola defection to another Political Party.
