Protest in Osun over Agbowo chieftaincy elevation
The indigenes of Agbowo community, a sub-hub of Iwo town in Iwo local government area of Osun State, trooped out on Wednesday to protest against what was described as imposition of candidate elevated from the position of community head ‘Baale’ to the King ‘Oba’ by the State government.
During the protest, the protesters enjoined the Osun State Government to exercise restraint in the purported crowning of Musibau Akande Gbenusola as the Olu of Agbowo, saying Musibau is a tenant at the Agbowo community originally owned by Ankan and Kondo families in Iwo.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Prince Sabitu revealed that the Agbowo designate has no criteria to hold even a chieftaincy title in the Agbowo community let alone appoint him a king, advising Governor Ademola Adeleke to do further investigation to ascertain the rightful owner of the community inorder not to install the wrong person as King in Agbowo.
Communities in Agbowo comprises Irewole, Ajekunle, Kondo, Surulere, Olorunsogo, Ifelagba Housing Estate, Ifelodun, Bolorunduro, Ayedade, Olugusi, Oganla 1 and Oganla 2.
At the time of filing this report, efforts to get the side view of the newly appointed Olu of Agbowo proved abortive as his number could not be reached.
