Suspected IS militants in West Africa (ISWAP) are fighting with the military at a military base in Askira / Uba Local Government Area of ​​Borno State.

Though some civilians said they spotted ISWAP fighters in a long convoy of artillery along the Ngude to Askira road, early this morning.
Civilians claimed to have reported terrorist activity to security forces but no action was taken before the vicious group attacked the town of Askira hours later.

Confirming the attacks, the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Engr Abdullahi Musa Askira, told reporters that the militants and the military were currently exchanging fire.

“My people told me that the attackers came with about 16 armored vehicles, and there is chaos in the whole town now.” Inji Engr. Askira says.

A civilian JTF official, Yakubu Luka, said the attackers immediately attacked the town, marching on a military base.
