In a telephone interview with OSUN REPORTERS, Halimat explained how overwhelmed and fulfilled as a young Nigerian who is able to impact knowledge to the younger generation and give back to the people of her immediate constituency.

In her statement, “I know ONSU does organize summer classes, but since I’m not one of the executive, even though it doesn’t matter, I didn’t have a mean of being an insider. But when I met a friend who happens to be the General Secretary who mention about the summer class and I asked if I can join as one of their tutor, that’s how it started.

“I took at least 2 classes a day, both at the Senior and Junior levels (Mathematics both at the junior and Senior level, Business Studies for Junior Classes), I also take an extra subject in case we have less available tutors.

“I just love imparting knowledge, and to me it is an opportunity to give out to the readily available students who are ready to learn as a way of indirectly giving back to my constituency,” She said.

Halimat, who hails from Iyalode Compound in Osogbo is a graduate of Accounting at the Osun State University in the year 2014 and served as Youth Corp in Lagos State in 2015/2016.

“It has always being my dream to join them as a tutor. I remember sometimes last year at St. James Grammar School tutorial centre in Ayetoro, Olorunda Local Government, Osogbo when I saw a banner at the school gate indicating the free holiday class was sponsored by Dr. Ajibola Basiru SRJ (now our Senator), and I determined that even if not financially, I should also contribute to such a wonderful programme,” she added.

The 27-year-old woman Parliamentarian who is the Supervisor For Education in Olorunda Local Government also distributed some customised note books to the pupils and students in attendance after the end of this year summer class in her local government as they are preparing for the new academic session.

“It has been a wonderful experience so far, and I am so happy I participated in this year programme. I’m sure next year will be better, the students were challenged and encouraged. At least, we had four Senior Students given scholarship for WACE and various gift were also awarded to best students.

“I want to use this medium to appreciate my boss, Senator Ajibola Basiru for his continuous support towards the sponsorship of the programme, the National President of Osogbo National Students’ Union (ONSU) Comrade Adeyemi Abdullahi Abayomi ‘Tripple A’, the Executive members, and all tutors for making this year programme a success.

“To all Osogbo indigenes, we should make it a duty and collective responsibility to move Osogbo to a better place. It’s not only the political office holders, irrespective of your position, as long as you are an indigene, at least there are things we can do for the betterment of Osogbo, Osun and Nigeria at large.
Oròki a gbe wa ooo,” she concluded.
