Osun Guber: Supreme Court to decide on Adeleke’s appeal tomorrow
Osun guber: S/Court to give judgement on Adeleke’s appeal tomorrow
Monday 17th of June, 2019 is the expected date for the Supreme Court to decide on the appeal filed by Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the declaration of Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as governor of Osun State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Court of Appeal had on May 9, 2019 upturned the verdict of the Osun State Election Petitions Tribunal which declared Senator Adeleke winner of the Osun State governorship election.
Justice Jummai Sankey, who presided over the five member panel of justice, upheld 10 out of the 12 issues raised by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the APC over the September 2018 governorship election that the lower tribunal lacked the jurisdiction to entertain some of the grounds of the petition brought by Adeleke on the matter.
However, Sen. Ademola Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are therefore seeking a declaration by the apex court through what they called ‘substantial non compliance’ with the electoral Act 2010 as amended, that they won the election by a wider margin than what was found by the lower tribunal.
