Osun CP, Umar Abba holds peace meeting with Apomu, Ikoyi communities over Masquerade Crisis

The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Mohammed Umar Abba, psc held an historic Peace and Security meeting with the people of Apomu and Ikoyi communities after Masquerade Festival Crisis.

In a landmark efforts to resolve the recent tensions and clashes between Apomu and Ikoyi communities during the masquerade festival, a peace and security meeting was held on Monday, 8th July, 2024 at Commissioner of Police office in Osogbo. The meeting brought together leaders and representatives from both communities to address their differences and work towards a harmonious coexistence.

According to the release signed by SP Opalola Yemisi Olawoyin, mnipr, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, the CP admonished the two communities to shun any act of violence in resolving their grievance as he noted that, Communication and dialogue are keys to resolving conflict and building harmonious relationship.

In their separate responses, the representatives from both communities appreciated the CP and the officers serving in their communities for their prompt response to the matter and the act of professionalism they displayed in resolving the crisis, while promising to allow peace to reign and continue to live in harmony. However, the representatives from both communities were made to sign peace accord treaty after the meeting.


Among critical stakeholders in the meeting are: Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Water and Environmental Sanitation Agency, Chief Lanre Odelade, the Chairmen of the two Local Governments in their Area, High Chiefs, leaders of OPC from both communities etc.
