OSUN: Akin Ogunbiyi betrayed Adeleke. – Lere Oyewumi
The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for Osun West Senatorial District in the 2019 General Election, Akogun Lere Oyewumi, has nailed Dr Akin Ogunbiyi as betrayer who failed to keep the promise he made with Senator Ademola Adeleke, Osun PDP Governorship Candidate.
He stated this on Monday while featuring on a weekly Yoruba-speaking political affairs programme ‘Oro Oselu’ on Rave FM, Osogbo, the state capital of Osun.
Oyewumi said, “After the Governorship Primaries, which Ogunbiyi lost, Senator Bukola Saraki called us for a reconciliation meeting at his Abuja House and agreements were made between Senator Ademola Adeleke and Akin Ogunbiyi
“The agreements were, Akin Ogunbiyi would be given an automatic ticket for Osun West Senatorial seat, Dr Deji Adeleke and prominent PDP Leaders will openly support his (Ogunbiyi) aspirations at Ile Ogbo, the hometown of Ogunbiyi, and Ogunbiyi will be on campaign trail and must deliver his local government – Ayedire.
“PDP decided to concede the Osun West Senatorial ticket to him and Chief Layi Ogunrinade led party’s leaders to his hometown to made the declaration. Unfortunately, Ogunbiyi travelled to America a day after the Declaration and did not join the party’s campaign trail until the Iwo Campaign Rally, which he failed to mobilize supporters for.
The former Irewole Local Government Chairman continued, “PDP has never lost Ayedire Local Government before, but due to Ogunbiyi’s breach of agreement, we lost the lost the local government woefully and Ogunbiyi could not even deliver his polling unit to the Party.”
On Oyetola’s recent statement that he felt ridiculed that he contested against a dancer, Adeleke, Oyewumi said that Oyetola should face business of governance rather than criticizing someone who had already congratulated him after the Supreme Court verdict.
When asked by Bukola Omoboriowo, the Host of the radio programme, on the endorsement of Senator Ademola Adeleke as the Osun PDP Governorship Candidate in 2022 Election, which the Adeleke’s family vehemently rejected, the Director-General of Adeleke Political Organization declined to make comment and said “it is an intra-party affairs.”
