One dies, many injure as explosion
One person was reportedly killed while around five others suffered burns to varying degrees after an explosion rocked an illegal refinery in the streams of the Warri River in the Warri local government area in the south. western Delta State, Thursday afternoon.
Sources said the victims were seen at Warri Miler’s pier as they were rushed to a private hospital in a fast speedboat.
One of the sources, who did not want her name printed, said the victims were burned when a fire destroyed their local refinery site while they were busy refining petroleum products in the streams.
Details regarding the cause of the explosion were, however, vague at the time of this report.
In addition, the identity of the victims could not be established but some of them are believed to be from the north of the country.
Delta State Command Police Public Relations Officer DSP Bright Edafe could not be reached for confirmation at the time of filing this report.
