Nigerian Army Commander Killed By Gunmen

,,,,,,,The commander of the Nigerian Army’s peacekeeping force, codenamed Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), and 14 other people were killed by suspected herdsmen in Edikwu’s Opaha Community.

According to The Guardian, the gunmen stormed the community around 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday in an attack that lasted until yesterday morning.

,,,,,,According to Isah Daniel, a resident, the community was abandoned as a result of the attack, and the injured were taken to a private clinic in Ugbokpo and Adoka.

“As I talk to you, we don’t know the location of many people because everyone ran away, as the attackers invaded the community at night,” he said.

Abu Umoro, a House of Assembly member representing Apa Constituency, and David Olofu, the Commissioner for Finance, are both from Opaha.

,,,,,,According to the commissioner, the attack was ‘unprovoked,’ and over 15 people were killed, including an army officer.

“Yes, they just went to my community and killed over 15 people, including the commander of OPWS in that area.

“This is a peaceful community. The attackers went to the community around 4.00p.m. As I talk to you, the whole community has been sacked,” the commissioner said.

,,,,,,,Flight-Lt. Flogh Oquoh, OPWS’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), told reporters that the commander was killed at the scene of the attack.

SP Catherine Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Benue Command, also confirmed the attack.
