There appears to be some controversy over the alleged arrest of a Nigerian Air Force officer Sergeant Torsabo Solomon over an alleged link to the attack on Nigeria Defense Academy ( NDA), Kaduna, where two officers were killed and another kidnapped.

A report indicates that the suspect, Solomon, who is currently attached to the Air Force Comprehensive School, Yola, was arrested Monday 8 November 2021 in Yola, the state capital of Adamawa.

An eyewitness informed news men in Yola that “Sergeant Solomon was arrested on the orders of the base commander, at the request of the NDA commander, for an offense related to the recent bandit attack on the NDA, Kaduna “. A privileged source who pleaded for anonymity said: “On November 8, around 6:00 am, NAF07 / 23922, Sergeant Torsobo Solomon of 153 BSG (Air Force Comprehensive School, Yola) was arrested on the orders of the commanding officer of the base. “At around 8:15 am, an ATR registered as NAF 930 [airplane] arrived to transport it from Yola to NDA Kaduna for further questioning.

However, the NDA denied the arrest of Sergeant Torsabo Solomon for his involvement in the security breach at the academy.

It was even then that he refuted the claim that Airforce personnel were in his custody.

In a statement released by the NDA spokesman, Major Bashir Muhammad Jajira said on Tuesday that the arrested sergeant had no connection with the attack on the Academy.

According to the statement, the NDA is a military training institution and not an investigative security agency.

To that end, he advised the general public to disregard information circulating on social media, saying the perpetrators of the academy’s security breach will be permanently apprehended.

Full statement: “Attention of the Nigerian Defense Academy has been drawn to a viral social media post regarding the arrest of Sergeant Torsabo Solomon for his involvement in the security breach at the Nigerian Academy defense and was forwarded to the Academy for investigation.

“This is to inform the general public that the aforementioned person is not in the custody of the Nigerian Defense Academy as alleged and has no connection with the Academy.

“The Nigerian Defense Academy is a military training institution, not an investigative security agency. The general public are hereby advised to disregard this misinformation and to refer to the relevant investigative security agencies for clarification.

“The Nigerian Defense Academy wishes to reassure the general public that the perpetrators of the security breach on the architecture of the Nigerian Defense Academy will be apprehended as soon as possible.
