NCRIB Shuts Down Osogbo For New Chairman, Gafaar Akindele’s Investiture
It was a one-in-town event in Osogbo the Osun state capital as eminent personalities gathered to witness the investiture of new Western Area Committee Chairman of Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), Mr Gafaar Akindele Alamu (AIIN, ACIB).
The event was held on Thursday to officially transfer the authority of Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti, Kwara and Osun States of NCRIB to the new Chairman.
In his inaugural speech, Mr Gafaar urged the professionals, business owners as well as market men and women to embrace insurance, adding that the age long story that insurance companies do not settle claims is nothing but falsehood.
According to him; “The age long story that insurance companies do not settle claims is nothing but apparent falsehood. I charge anyone here that has his/her genuine insurance claim turned down in the recent past to meet me or any members of our Council for assistance.
“It is interesting to note that many insurance companies are paying claims within 72 hours after complete documentation of the claim.
“My advice is that we should consider insurance as an option to secure our lives and property. In doing so, let us contact any registered insurance brokers that understands the nitty gritty of any insurance contract,” new Chairman assured.”
Alamu also thanked Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration for fulfilling one of his electoral promises by letting Osun money circulate among the Osun people through patronage. He charged the state government to drive the enforcement of the other compulsory insurances to Public Building Insurance, Building Under Construction, third party motor vehicle insurance and others.
The investiture, where hundreds of people benefited from the NCRIB free medical checkup also honoured some important personalities with Award of Excellence for their positive impact in society, while public lecture on the importance of partnership through the theme; “BREAKING BARRIERS THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS AND FRATERNITY” by Prof. Festus M. Epetimehin, Professor of Risk Management And Insurance, Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji Arakeji, Osun State was elaboratly delivered.
Epetimehin explained how partnership can solve both present and future challenges of individuals and the society at large, charging Nigerians to look inward to tackle the challenges facing the nation.
In his remark, the President of the Governing Board, Nigerian Council Board of Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, Prince Babatunde Oguntade described insurance as an antidote to Catastrophe that will always create set backs to people’s lives.
He said “Catastrophe will always create set backs, losses will create set back, be it economy, be it manpower, be it calibration of other big magnitude when you have such thing the best antidote to all of these is insurance at the Macro and micro level, such that even petty traders can get indemnify when losses occur.
“When breadwinners die, if they take life insurance, life can continue without them, children will continue to go to school, we can reduce the number of out of school children, and the number of beggars in the system. When businesses breakdown due to loss, we have policies insurance that can continue to put the business in place.” he added
In his royal message, the Akire of Ikire-Ile Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Olatunbosun Adebamiji AbdulAzeez, (Ogunkojo II, Ilufemiloye I) expressed his happiness for witnessing the investiture of his longtime friend Gafaar Alamu, advising members of Insurance Brokers to support the new chairman.
“This is a daunting task and I know you are numerate enough to continue to excel in this professional calling of yours.
“Let me seize this opportunity to call on the members of this Council to extend their support and cooperation to the new Chairman for the overall success of the Council. Do not hesitate to offer honest and progressive advice to Mr. Àlàmú so he can steer the ship of this great Council and navigate the tides towards resounding success. He cannot do it alone. He will not do it alone. However with your support, you shall soon see a turn around in the fortunes of NCRIB. This is the extent to which I am confident in his God-given ability,” the monarch said.
Other members of the NCRIB Western Area Committee include: Faith Olaoye – Vice Chairman; Taiwo Adejuyigbe – General Secretary; Olaide Sodipe – Asst Secretary; Moses Akinyoola – Treasurer; Saheed Kunle Oladele – PRO; Gbenga Afolabi – Financial Secretary; Abayomi Babalola – Auditor
Some of the dignitaries at the event include, Director, Central Technological Laboratory and workshops OAU, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Prof. Oseni Kehinde Owolarafe ; Hon. Justice Kunle Adeigbe (Rtd); Executive Secretary of NCRIB, Tope Adaramola (AIIN, FCIB); Otunba Alani Odunlade; Chapter Chairmen of NCRIB across Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun and Osun State, groups, technocrats, artisans, government officials, cultural troops among others.
