NBC bans Radio Station on-air, suspends presenters

Information reaching the OSUNREPORTERS NEWS has it that the Nigeria Broadcasting commission (NBC) has banned an Inspiration FM programme known as “Olufe Otito” over continuous airing of ideologies dinigrating Islam through the programme.

,,,,,The Muslim Media Practitoners of Nigeria (MMPN) filed a complaint to the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) over the excesses of the Inspiration FM’s presenters who air statements that “denigrates Islam and adherents of the religion” through the programme. In a response to their complaints, the NBC said it has investigated and found their allegations against Inspiration FM to be genuine.

….In a letter signed by the NBC’s Zonal Director, Raphael Akpan, which was seen by INTEL REGION, the NBC stated that after its investigation revealed that the allegations were true, the “Olufe Otito” programme has been banned and the anchors of the programme have been suspended indefinitely.

,,,,The letter which was signed by the Zonal Director, Racheal Akpan and was addressed to the Chairman of Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) in Oyo State, Ridwan Fasasi, hailed the organization and the Muslim Community for towing the peaceful path in resolving the matter.

Read the letter below:

“RE: INSPIRATION FM AGAIN WITH ITS PROGRAMME DENIGRATING ISLAM AND ADHERENTS OF THE RELIGION: OUR FINDINGS AND ACTIONS” reads:

“Pursuant to Section 14.3.1 (d) of the 6th edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code which states that the Commission shall notify the parties of the progress of the investigation, findings and action taken, I wish to notify you as follows:

“i) that your complaint with above subject was received, considered and investigated in accordance with Section 2 (1)f of the Code.

“ii) that your complaint was investigated and upheld due to the fact that your allegations against the presenters of the programme “Olufe Otito” and the station, were true.

“iii) the station has been sanctioned accordingly, the programme banned on air and presenters suspended indefinitely,

“The Commission appreciates you and members of Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) and the entire Muslim Community for towing this peaceful path in resolving the matter.”
