Man sells son for N350,000 after declaring him dead
Police in Abia State arrested a 40-year-old man, Appolos Ndubuisi, for allegedly selling a baby boy for N 350,000, after deceiving the mother into telling her that the baby had died during childbirth. Ndubuisi allegedly conspired with a certain Rose Godwin Chinweikpe, who operates a maternity hospital in the community of Owoahia-Afor in Obingwa commune, to sell the baby.
It was concluded that the little boy believed to be a stillborn child belonged to Ndubuisi’s alleged wife, Deborah Onukaogu.
During a briefing to Umuahia reporters, Abia State Police Commissioner Ms. Janet Agbede said that in 2020 Deborah Onukaogu became pregnant with Appolos Ndubuisi, from Umuariaga village in the Ikwuano council region of the state.
The CP revealed that Onukaogu confessed to police that Ndubuisi never performed traditional or Christian marriage rites to make her his legally married wife.
However, Onukaogu reportedly gave birth to a baby boy on June 26, 2021, but suspects Ndubuisi and Rose conspired and claimed the baby was a stillborn child.
It was further understood that Deborah became pregnant again for Ndubuisi who asked her to go to Rose’s maternity hospital for another childbirth.
Suspecting foul play in relation to the alleged stillbirth, Deborah filed a police report leading to the arrest of the two suspects.
“The complainant, Ms. Deborah Onukaogu accepted in good faith the story that her baby was a stillborn child and subsequently became pregnant with the same man. Ndubuisi suggested that she should go to the same maternity hospital where she would have had the presumed stillbirth. Deborah objected but the supposed husband, Appolos Ndubuisi insisted and told her that they would sell the unborn child at delivery.
“This statement heightened Deborah’s suspicions about what must have happened to the previous child who they believe died in childbirth and she reported to police.
