Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Wednesday facetiously sought the permission of his wife, Betty to marry a second wife.

Ondo governor jestingly made the comment while addressing participants during the second summit of Forum for wives of Ondo state officials (FOWOSO) in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

Akeredolu was reacting to a comment credited to a Ghanaian Counselor, Lutterodt that advised rich men to marry more than one wife because a lot of ladies are single and might be getting desperate.

He also stated that since such men have the financial capability, they should marry more than one wife to assist the female species, adding that the new wife would be taking care of her.

Arakunrin however stressed the need for men to take care of the needs of women and accord them respect at all times.

On her part, Ondo State Firstlady, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu said part of the nation’s challenges is the denial of womenfolk equal right to socio-economic privileges.

She said over 100 women died as a result of childbirth, while over 2,000 children’s dream to celebrate their 5th birthday is crushed by death.

The cancer advocate noted that these challenges are largely a result of high level cultural norms and practices against women leading to their inability to make decisions in the society.

Wife of Ondo governor, Mrs Anyanwu Akeredolu said tackling these challenges gave birth to FOWOSO in 2017.

She said FOWOSO has thrived to empower women in all the eighteen local government areas of the state.
