Lagbaja: Oyetola pays condolence visit on Olobu, deceased’s hometown

Following the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoheed Lagbaja, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola on Thursday paid a condolence visit on the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan.

Recall that the death of Lagbaja was formally announced by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after the deceased breathed his last at a hospital in Lagos.

Oyetola who was represented at the Olobu’s palace by a powerful delegation led by the Osun State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal described the sudden death of the late COAS as a collosal loss to Nigeria in general, Nigerian Army, Osun and Ilobu community in particular.

The Minister who acknowledged the tremendous impacts and contributions of the late General to the unity and oneness of Nigeria, described him as a ‘patriotic and unforgettable hero’ whose entire service life was dedicated to the protection and safety of the sovereignty of Nigeria.

He extolled Lagbaja’s high sense of professionalism, courage, bravery and unrelenting commitment to national integration and security which eventually earned him the coveted position of his career as Lieutenant General in the Nigerian Military.

The former Osun State Governor expressed solidarity with the royal household, the Ilobu community and the entire people of the ancient town.

“Lt. General Lagbaja’s legacy of bravery and commitment remains a source of pride not only to his hometown, Ilobu or Osun, but also to the progressive family and Nigeria as a whole.

“Hence, this visit demonstrates our party’s commitment to stand by the people of Osun in times of sorrow as it reflects on the respect our leaders hold for traditional institutions and community bonds.

“We hope our collective expression of condolences offer comfort to the royal family and all touched by the late General’s life as his legacies continue to live on and serve as source of inspiration, dedication and unity within our communities”, Oyetola said.

Earlier, former Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye and former lawmaker in Irepodun State Constituency, Hon. Nasiru Olateju expressed condolences over the demise of the late COAS.

They prayed God to grant the deceased the finest place in heaven and continue to uphold his immediate family, the people of Ilobu, Osun State and Nigeria at large.


In his response, the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan appreciated the Minister’s good gesture and hands of fellowship to royalty and his subjects over times, praying God to continue to uphold him, the party and the present federal government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
