President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the dismissal of the management of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
Ofem Uket, spokesperson for Goddy Agba, Minister of State in Power, announced it in a press release on Tuesday, December 7, 2021.

According to the statement, the president also approved a new interim board of directors to oversee the day-to-day operations of the company.
The action follows industrial action by workers at the Nigerian Electricity Employees Union (NUEE) to protest against unpaid allowances, wages and pension deductions.

The strike left many areas served by the AEDC in the dark, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kogi, Nasarawa and Niger states.

The statement said that “the presidential directives as transmitted also ordered the Bureau of Public Enterprises to set up a new AEDC management team.”

“In a Memorandum of Understanding, jointly signed by Minister of State Power Goddy Jedy Agba, Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission NERC, Sanusi Garba, Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Alex Okoli Comrade Joe Ajaero on behalf of the union, the federal government has ordered the strike to be suspended [and called for] a 21-day period within which overdue emoluments and staff rights will be paid.
