…..The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 election, Adewole Adebayo, has warned Nigerians to avoid treason in promoting Interim Government, EaglesPath Online reports.
The Department of State Services (DSS), on Wednesday, warned of a plot to stop the swearing-in ceremony of the President-elect and install an interim government.
…..In a statement by its spokesman, Peter Afunanya, the DSS said the plot includes violent protests to achieve the declaration of a state of emergency and securing court injunctions against the inauguration.
In a statement by its spokesman, Peter Afunanya, the DSS said the plot includes violent protests to achieve the declaration of a state of emergency and securing court injunctions against the inauguration.
Reacting to the development in a tweet via his Twitter account on Thursday, Adebayo said the call for an interim government is an act of treason and it is synonymous with joining a terrorist organisation.
….The SDP Presidential candidate acknowledged that peaceful protest over the 2023 elections is legitimate, even if unpleasant.
He, however, warned Nigerian youths to desist from any act that could be regarded as a treasonable felony.
“Peaceful protest over elections is legitimate, even if unpleasant. Nigerians, especially youths, must avoid treason in promoting any so-called “interim government”, a high crime, on the same scale as joining Boko Haram, ISWAP, or any terror group. All gains will be lost,” he wrote on Twitter.
Since the declaration of Tinubu as the president-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), some civil society groups have protested the outcome of the February 25 presidential election.
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has also led a protest against the election at the headquarters of INEC in Abuja.
…….The former Vice President and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, are challenging the outcome of the election at the Presidential Election Petitions sitting in Abuja.
