I’ll continue to support youth in the State – Owoeye
The Speaker of The Osun State House of Assembly, on Monday has expressed his readiness to ensure youth development in the state takes centre stage.
Owoeye said this while speaking with leaderships of Online Media Practitioners led by Jare Tiamiyu and the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Correspondents’ Chapel led by its Chairman, Mr Tunji Omofoye, who paid him a visit to congratulate him on his 48th birthday.
“As you’re aware, I sponsored a bill tagged Youth Development Commission Bill, which is awaiting Mr Governor’s accent and it’s to enhance youths participation in politics
Owoeye advised journalists in the state against fake, incite news and reports that can cause panic in the state.
He explained that the media/journalists are very relevant in government, saying that information disseminated by them could make or mar any individual, government or system.
“The problem we have with journalists and newsmen is news that are inciting. I will urge you journalists to desist from fake news, especially in Osun state.
“The online news information is even more difficult because people get their information on the social media these days. I am hereby urging you to let your information and news be correct,” he said.
Owoeye, however, promised to continue working with the journalists, describing them as crucial tools in government and a democratic system.
“Information is very important to government and the media is the channel and medium through which the people can know what the government is doing.
“We don’t joke with journalists. The information they dish out can make or mar any government.
“I have been supportive of journalists in the state and will continue to give support to them.” he said
Earlier, Mr Tunji Omofoye, Chairman, Osun NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel, appealed to the speaker to continue to give more support to media practitioners in the state.
Omofoye also celebrated with the speaker for adding another year, praying that God would give him good health to pilot the ship of the state assembly successfully.
Also, Mr Jare Tiamiyu the chairman of Osun online media practitioners congratulated the speaker on his 48th birthday anniversary.
Tiamiyu wished Mr Speaker, a sound health, wisdom, strength and capacity to continue to pilot the affairs of the house.
Earlier in the day, the speaker had, during a Thanksgiving Ceremony held in the assembly quarters, expressed his appreciation to his Creator for granting him opportunity to celebrate the day in sound health
“I am thankful to God, Governor of Osun state, Gboyega Oyetola, the leadership of our party(APC), former Speakers of the house, my wives(Wives of the honorable members of the house), all Rectors of the state owned institution, assembly workers, my supporters and many others for their support.”
The state governor, Gboyega Oyetola who was ably represented by his deputy, Mr Benedict Alabi, congratulated the Speaker of State House of Assembly, Mr Timothy Owoeye.
The governor and his deputy commended the speaker for his commitment to the development of the state.
State government lauded Owoeye for demonstrating exemplary leadership at the Assembly, describing him as a forthright legislator and an astute administrator.
He also applauded the speaker for his commitment to the development of the state, noting that the many achievements of the administration would not have been possible without the understanding, support and cooperation of the legislative arm.
He said, “Since your emergence as the Speaker of the 7th Assembly, your commitment to matters of State interest, development and progress have been impressive.
”The many achievements and accomplishments of our administration within a short period would not have been possible without the understanding, support and cooperation of the House under your effective leadership.
“Your legislative prowess and managerial skills have also brought about the achievements, people-centred and focused legislation the House has delivered in its one year to the admiration of citizens and residents of our State to which we all are grateful.
“Therefore, on behalf of my family, the government and people of the State of Osun, I join family members, colleagues, associates and wellwishers to rejoice with you on the occasion of your birthday.
“It is our collective prayer that God Almighty will continue to keep you in good health and grant you a longer life in the service of your people, our State and country,” the governor added”.
On his part, the deputy governor described Owoeye as an embodiment of courage and resilience. He lauded the lawmaker for exhibiting uncommon loyalty to the progressive fold, even at the point of suffocating provocation and constant threat.
The deputy governor further eulogised Owoeye for displaying courage at every moment of challenge, adding that his charisma remains a phenomenon to study by coming generations of politicians. Alabi also commended the speaker for piloting the affairs of the parliament with wisdom and dexterity and without rancour.
“As you are celebrating your birthday today, it is imperative for those of us who are close to you to celebrate your special day with you and also eulogise some of those virtues that stand you out.
“May God continue to guide you as to sustain those outstanding qualities that keep your consciousness permanently in the minds of many.
“On behalf of my family, I wish you more of this special day on earth, with enviable accomplishments and sound health”, Alabi added.
