I still want to marry her, says a 25-year-old man stabbed by his fiancee
Habib Suleiman, a resident of Unguwan Rogo in the Jos North local government area in Plateau state, says he still wants to marry his fiancee, Fatima Danjuma, despite stabbing him with a knife.
Fatima, a resident of Ali Kazaure, also in the LGA of Jos Nord, was arrested on December 2 by police for allegedly stabbing her fiance during a dispute.
Police said although the accused denied stabbing Habib, the preliminary investigation found that she stabbed him with a knife during a disagreement.
According to the victim, Fatima stabbed him when she saw him in her neighborhood walking with another girl whom she suspected to be his girlfriend.
He said the girl in question was his friend’s younger sister.
He said: “When she saw me and the girl as she was walking past with her friend, I noticed she was angry and when I called her by name she refused to answer because she was very jealous.
“I had no idea that after seeing me with the girl, she stopped at a neighbor’s house and picked up a knife. All of a sudden she stabbed me. From there, I was taken to the hospital.
“But despite the incident, I still love Fatima. I still want to marry her. What happened was only fate because it can happen to anyone. We love each other so much. I think she was angry and that’s why she stabbed me.
“She has regretted and pleaded with me to forgive her and I have forgiven her. If there is anything that one can do, it is to help me plead with my parents to allow me to marry her, I will be very grateful.
“And to show her that I am still interested in her, even after I was discharged from the hospital, I visited her at the police station to show my sympathy,” Habib added.
When contacted, Habib’s mother, Maryam Suleiman, said when she heard about the incident, she was disturbed and wondered how the girl he was proposing to marry would stab him with a knife.
She said: “Thank God he is alive. Enough of this relationship. We have earlier made all necessary arrangements to pay the girl’s bride price but we are no longer interested.”
She said she would not allow the relationship to continue because of the fear that if they were married, she might kill him.
