How Mother Of Three Jumped Into Osun River Over Depression In Osogbo

Indeed, depression is real but suicide not an option. The woman, After jumping into the Osun river from the popular Aregbe bridge in Osogbo, was however lucky to be rescued by some residents of the area who fished her out before she drowned.

After she was rescued, the dejected woman identified herself as Kafayat Alake from Alapaaro, Isale Osun, Osogbo.

The sad news happened barely 15 hours after the Osun State Government had imposed stay-at-home order on the residents of the state as part of the measures to curb the spread of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic in the state.

According her God sent rescuer, the woman, who dressed in blue gown jumped off into the river, drew the attention of passersbys who were just on their way to have one or two things done in the area.

“Just like magic, it happened so fast that we could not stop her but the way people called for help prompted me to dive in and rescued her. We were somewhere around that place when the woman’s body dropped from the bridge. At first we thought she was either pushed or fell over by mistake, while other are calling for help, I had to jump into the river and rescue her,” David Johnson explained.

Stating the reasons behind her action, Alake said she hails from Alapaaro, Isale Osun, Osogbo. She said she has three children and she could not be able to cater for them due to financial predicament. “I have three children and I couldn’t cater for them due to my financial predicament. My husband stays in Lagos. We have separated about thirteen years ago,” She incoherently said.


Few minutes after she was rescued, some government officials from both Local and State governments who were on another assignment saw the woman in a crowded scene and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by the O’amblance.
