Gumi Explains Why Gunmen Won’t to Stop Killing In Nigeria
The mediator of the robbers said that only religion can be used to calm the robbers so that they can embrace peace.
Islamist cleric Ahmad Gumi says militants have refused to end violence against the Nigerian government because they have not been given “enough money”.
Mr Gumi added that previous efforts by the militants to reconcile had failed because they had not been compensated with land or cattle or large sums of money to help end the violence.
He added that sometimes the government would give them (one robber) one or two million and get their weapons regardless of how they live.
In a live broadcast on his Facebook page on Tuesday, the robber himself said the only religion that could be calmed down was to embrace peace.
Mr Gumi once compared the robbers to Niger-Delta militants, and called for the creation of a federal ministry to deal with their grievances and those of deadly Fulani herdsmen.
Contrary to Mr. Gumi’s view, Katsina Governor Aminu Masari has openly acknowledged that Fulani militants are killing and abducting Nigerians, saying they do not deserve amnesty.
