A Civil Rights Group, Vocal Point Human Rights Initiative, has petitioned the Inspector -General of Police, Mr Olukayode Egbetokun, over threat to life , human right abuse and attempted murder of one Oladimeji Yusuf by some officers of the monitoring team unit , Eleyele Command Headquarters in Oyo State .

Mr Ayobami Sakirullah, the chairman of VOHRI in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Ibadan , decried the manner at which yusuf was beaten near death and abused for an offense he never committed despite some false accusations.

Sakurullah narrated the urgly experience Yusuf encountered in the hands of some officers of the Nigerian Police eleyele and pleaded with the Police IGP to ensure he gets justice for the inhuman displayed by the suspected police officers.

According to him, the need for thorough investigation by the IGP team and also outrightly dismissal of one officer Ayomide Adekola with disciplinary actions wired on some officers of the eleyele monitoring unit becomes paramount.

“We believe that the actions of these lawless police officers would be injurious to other civil personnel if they had not served as a deterrent to other officers who might have such malevolent contour as their acts against sections 33,34, 35(2), and 36(1&2).

” Yusuf was beaten and pushed until he hit his chest with the bricks of the building blocks in front of the police office, which made him unresponsive and seriously injured before he was later rushed to the Police Medical Center Eleyele.

“Also , we crave the indulgence of all concerned authorities to investigate this petition and treated in accordance to the enabling laws so that justice will be served. Injustice to one is threat and Injustice to all”.

He said that Yusuf and two others had gone to eleyele police station to mediate on behalf of one Afeez Arowosegbe, whose 17-year-old apprentice and a customer were unlawfully arrested.

” Yusuf identified himself and his colleagues as human rights activists, which prompted an aggressive reaction from the station officer (SO) Ayobami Adekola who verbally abused them.

“SO Adekola ordered his men to forcefully remove the human rights activists out of the station and in the process yusuf was violently shoved into a brick wall, resulting in severe injuries and requiring hospitalization.

Sakurullah, however , urged the Inspector General of Police, Assistant Inspector General of Police, and the Commissioner of Police at Eleyele Command to take swift action to ensure justice is served for the interest of all parties involved .
