Five Nigerian Pilgrims Die In Saudi Arabia

Information reaching the OsunReporters News confirmed that not less than five Nigerian have died at the ongoing hajj in Saudi Arabia.

According to reports, two pilgrims from Kwara State as confirmed by the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Board on Sunday passed away in Madina, Saudi Arabia.

The Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Abdulsalam Abdulkadir, said: “Saliu Mohammed, who arrived with Batch 3 of the state contingent, died in an intensive care unit of a public hospital in Madina after a brief illness, while Hajia Hawawu Mohammed (Batch 9) also died following what Saudi authorities have investigated and found to be an unfortunate suicidal episode from the rooftop of her apartment in Madina.”

The board regreted the sad events, but submits totally to the decree and ultimate knowledge of Allah in all affairs.”

Meanwhile, the Kebbi State Pilgrims Welfare Board also announced on Sunday the death of another pilgrim from the state in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

According to the Executive Chairman of the board, Alhaji Faruku Aliyu-Enabo, identified the deceased as Abubakar Abdullahi from Gulma in Argungu Local Government Area died following a brief illness.

The board’s chairman stated that Governor Nasir Idris has expressed sorrow over the death and offered prayers for the deceased, asking Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.

,,,,_____“The governor also urged the immediate family of the deceased, friends and Kebbi pilgrims to take heart and accept the will of God Almighty in good faith,” stated Aliyu-Enabo.

He said the deceased was buried according to Islamic rites after his funeral prayer at Masjid Al-Ihram (Ka’aba) on Friday.

In another sad report, death of another Kebbi pilgrim, Tawalkatu Busare Alako from Jega Local Government Area, who died on May 27, 2024, after a brief illness was also recorded in Saudi Arabia.

Again, a Lagos pilgrim, Oloshogbo Idris, died in Makkah on May 28, 2024, shortly after returning from the circumambulation of the Holy Kaaba.


At the time of filing this report, total number of death recorded at the ongoing hajj in Saudi Arabia were unknown.
