EFCC detains former governor over N1.6b naira fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a former governor of Edo State, Lucky Igbinedion.
According to reports, Igbinedion, who ended his term as governor in 2007, is being roasted at EFCC headquarters in Abuja for allegedly embezzling public funds to the tune of 1.6 billion naira.
A loan obtained by the Edo state government was said to have been diverted to a company in which it has an interest.
Mr. Igbinedion was prosecuted in 2008 by the EFCC and found guilty of embezzling 2.9 billion naira from Edo state.
He was sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to one count that was trimmed from 191 counts.
The latest invitation was confirmed by EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren who did not give further details.
