Court sends man to one year jail for stealing phone
For stealing mobile phone valued at fifty-thousand naira (N54,000), a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Odigbo has sentenced the a man to one-year imprisonment,
The 24-year-old man identified as Effiong Samuel, was convicted and jailed after he pleaded guilty to a count of stealing.
Meanwhile, the prosecutor, James Usifo had earlier told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 23, 2023 at about 10am at Asejire village via Otu Costain in Ore, noting that the defendant stole an Android POP 6 Phone valued at N54,000, property of one Tobi Omosehin.
Under the law, the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Vol 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
Usifo, while admitting the defendant’s statement of guilt, said the case needed not to be proved and urged the court to convict the defendant accordingly
However, Chief Magistrate O. Ogunfuyi sentenced the defendant to one year imprisonment with no option of fine.
