Buhari Speaks On Petrol Subsidy, Insecurity, Education during 2023 Appropriation Bill
President MUHAMMADU BUHARI today said the Federal Government would not sign any agreement it could not fulfil, as the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ strike enters its eighth month.
Meanwhile, the President explained that the federal government targets one-point-nine-two trillion naira in oil revenues for 2023.
He revealed this today while presenting the 2023 appropriation bill to a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja, explaining that the government would spend twenty point one-five trillion naira for the 2023 fiscal year, with six point three-one trillion and two point four-two trillion naira of that amount going to debt servicing and government owned enterprises, respectively.
He also pushed for the removal of fuel subsidy in 2023, saying that the policy is not sustainable considering current economic realities, sharing the position while presenting the 2023 budget proposal to the National Assembly, noting that petrol subsidy has been a recurring and controversial public policy issue in our country since the early eighties.
The President, however, hinted that provisions would be made to cushion the effects of subsidy removal. He also cautioned the lawmakers against budget stuffing and interference of some committees in the budget approval process.
President MUHAMAMDU BUHARI has promised Nigerians that his last days in office will see a much more improved security system across the country.
President Buhari gave this assurance today during his record of the twenty- point five-one trillion naira proposed budget for the 2023 financial year, made to the members of the National Assembly.
The President also appreciated the collaborative efforts of the leadership of the National Assembly in ensuring the improvement of the well-being of the average citizen.
