BREAKING: Your Defection Was Unlawful, Court Rules Against Saraki, Dogara, 51 Others
The 53 lawmakers in the National Assembly who defected to other political parties is unlawful, the Federal High Court rules.
Based on the judgement of the Supreme Court, which gave reasons that would allow for defection, the lawmakers did not meet that requirement, says Justice Okon Abang while delivering the judgement on Friday.
OSUN REPIRTERS gathered that the Legal Defence Assistance Project (LEDAP), filed a suit challenging the defection of the Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and 51 other lawmakers.
In the suit, LEDAP had asked the court to order the lawmakers to vacate their seats in the National Assembly and return all salaries and allowances earned since their defection, claiming that their defection was based on selfish reasons other than what the law prescribed.
Contrarily, Justice Abang held with the facts before the court that Senator Godswill Akpabio is not in violation of the law because he neither decamped nor defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
