General Leo Irabor, the Nigerian military’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has ordered 50 generals to resign with immediate effect.

According to the report, they span the Air Force, Army, and Navy, with the Army accounting for about a quarter of the senior officers.

…..A reliable source revealed that Irabor issued the directive on Monday at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

….The CDS thanked them for their service and told everyone present at a 2 p.m. meeting that it was past time for them to leave office.

The Course 36 Generals, on the other hand, have more than three years before they must retire.

“They’re around 50; two of them are Army officers who will retire in 2022, and the rest have about three and a half years left in service,” the source revealed.

Another source questioned why the Armed Forces are eager to let go of a large number of capable and experienced personnel at a time when the country is grappling with insecurity.
