Borno Governor Speaks About Repentant Boko Haram Terrorists
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State said on Tuesday that Boko Haram insurgents surrendering to troops should not be rejected by the society, saying most of them were conscripted into insurgency against their will.
Zulum, who stated this in a briefing with State House correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said over 100,000 indigenes of the state had been killed since the outbreak of insurgency, while at least 2,600 insurgents had surrendered with their wives and children already in custody of the state.
Governor Zulum, said he discussed the report of the surrendering of insurgents with the President, since he didn’t see any reason those who surrendered should be rejected, adding that the state government was not contemplating giving repentant terrorists any dime to surrender.
