APC Issues Strong Warning Ahead Of Tribunal Judgement
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a warning to the leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP)-led administration in Kano state over alleged interference in the decisions of the Kano state election petition tribunal.
The spokesperson for the Gawuna/Gari Campaign Council, Malam Muhammad Garba, expressed disapproval of what he perceived as a deliberate effort by the Abba Yusuf-led government to tarnish the reputation of the chairman of the National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, Hon. Justice Flora Ngozi Azinge.
The APC claimed that the Kano state government’s actions, which involve spreading a fabricated story and misrepresenting the judge’s words, are aimed at undermining the tribunal’s credibility, especially in light of an impending final judgement.
The party also accused the government of trying to preemptively divert attention from potential revelations regarding the actual source of any bribes related to the case.
Garba highlighted that the fabricated story, presented through a statement from the state’s Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, suggests that the government seeks to vilify the tribunal before the final judgement, possibly in order to generate sympathy from the public if the government faces defeat.
The former commissioner emphasized that despite any appearance of victory, the APC remains steadfast and will not engage in bribery with anyone involved in the case. The party asserted that it has presented substantial evidence to support its case before the tribunal.
Garba noted that the APC had brought forth its witnesses during the tribunal’s proceedings, while the NNPP government had failed to present compelling witnesses to support its position.
The former commissioner characterized the actions of the Kano state government as a mere ploy to discredit the APC. While reaffirming the party’s commitment to pursuing legal remedies, Garba expressed confidence that the APC will eventually succeed in reclaiming what it sees as its stolen mandate.
