The Apex socio-political Organisation of Oke-Ogun region in Oyo state, Alliance for Oke-Ogun Development (AOD) on Saturday gave the Federal Government a 21- days ultimatum to rehabilitate and make the Iseyin Okeogun – Oyo Alaafin road motorable.

The National Coordinator of the forum, Engr Rafiu Fasasi gave the ultimatum during a chat tagged “State of Oke-Ogun Road” with some selected journalists in Ibadan.

He said that it was sad that the access roads to the food basket of the state were in deplorable conditions.

Otunba Abiodun said that the group was worried that the access roads to the Okeogun region, such as Ilorin – Igbeti Okeogun and Oyo – Iseyin Okeogun had been abandoned for decades.

“It is sad that Oke-Ogun economy is abandoned due to bad roads. We can no longer live with the abandonment of access roads to the region which have been in the state of disrepair for years in spite of efforts to draw government attention to the need to fix them,” he said.

The group coordinator said that for a long time, the Oyo – Iseyin Okeogun as well as Ilorin – Igbeti Okeogun and many other roads within the region had become death traps to road users.

We are in June 2020, nothing has been done as effort for the government at the center. The most painful of it is that no signs that the roads contract has been awarded to any contractor,” Otunba said.

He further said; “after 21days to this press release the rehabilitation project does not start, all concerned youths from the region will be compelled to take necessary action without further notice,” the group leader said.

Otunba appealed to the government to repair the roads to save lives of innocent Nigerians that get trapped on the road or being attacked, robbed, harassed, intimidated and abused by hoodlums.

He said that hoodlums have been taken advantage of the deplorable roads to perpetuate all sorts of crimes.
