Alleged plot by Adeleke’s govt to remove Osun CJ revealed
…State Govt reacts to allegations
,,,,,A coalition of civil society organizations in Osun State has expressed deep concern over the interference of the executive and legislative arms of the government with the judiciary.
In a press conference, on Wednesday, the Vice Chairman of the OSCSC, Ayodeji Ologun, strongly condemned the attempt to illegally remove the Chief Judge of Osun State, Honorable Justice Adebola Adepele Ojo, by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The coalition emphasized that such actions undermine the independence of the judiciary, a crucial component of any democratic society.
The Chief Judge, in her constitutional duty to uphold justice and ensure impartial administration of the law, faced reprisals for her principled stand against manipulation of the judiciary.
The civil society groups called on Governor Adeleke to respect the independence of the judiciary and cease any attempts to remove the Chief Judge based on political reasons.
They stressed the importance of allowing the judiciary to operate without fear of reprisal or interference for justice to be served impartially.
Additionally, the coalition expressed condemnation regarding the appointment of a political aide of Governor Adeleke, Barrister Hashim Abioye, as the Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC).
Stating that this move contradicts the fundamental principle of ensuring a non-partisan, impartial, and transparent electoral process.
The organization also called on the Osun State government to reconsider the appointment and prioritize individuals with a proven track record of impartiality, integrity, and commitment to democratic principles.
The coalition reiterated its commitment to defending the rule of law, protecting the independence of the judiciary, and promoting accountability in governance. The credibility of elections, essential for the stability and progress of a democratic society, depends on independent and transparent electoral processes.
Addressing the allegations from the coalition of civil society groups, the government expressed surprise and urged the public to note that the Governor would not be involved in anything against the law, due process, and the constitution of the Republic of Nigeria.
The Osun State Government has vehemently denied any knowledge of a plot against the state Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Adepele Ojo.
