The Nigeria Police Force took social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), into custody on Thursday evening.

This action followed his appearance at their Abuja station after a formal invitation.

While details of VDM’s alleged offence remain unclear as of this report, his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed that Otse was detained after responding to the police invitation. Adeyanju shared on X that Otse had attended a similar session with the police the day before.

In his post, Adeyanju stated, “Our client, VDM, has been detained after honouring a police invitation just like yesterday. VDM has been consistent in stating that the Nigerian Police are our friends, even when we all know they are not.”

Earlier in the week, VeryDarkMan issued a public apology to the Nigeria Police Force for wearing a police uniform in a viral video where he jokingly referred to himself as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) of an “online division.” He posted the apology on his X account after being questioned by the police on Wednesday for alleged impersonation.

The influencer explained that he was unaware of the legal requirement to obtain police permission for wearing police uniforms or those that closely resemble them.

Following his release on Wednesday, Otse cautioned content creators to seek necessary approvals from law enforcement authorities before featuring police-like uniforms in their content.

In another development, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, controversial Nigerian crossdresser, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to reports. the crossdresser was apprehended at the Lagos airport while attempting to board a flight to London.

____Bobrisky revealed this incident on his Instagram story, while sharing a brief video in which he claimed to be injured.

____In his post, Bobrisky wrote, “Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”

This incident comes barely few weeks after he was arrested at the Benin Republic Immigration Service at the popular Seme border during passport checks.

___It was learnt that the embattled crossdresser was trying to leave Nigerian unnoticed when he was arrested.

The controversy surrounding Bobrisky began in April 2024 when he was sentenced to six months in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos for naira abuse.

______Although he was officially incarcerated at Kirikiri Prison, reports emerged later alleging that Bobrisky spent only three weeks in the facility before being discreetly moved to a private location.

This prompted widespread speculation that his release and special treatment were facilitated through bribery, with accusations of a N15m payment made to officials to secure his transfer and preferential conditions.

The situation escalated in late September when a social media influencer, VeryDarkMan, posted an audio recording allegedly involving Bobrisky.

_____In the leaked recording, Bobrisky purportedly claimed that music artiste, Falz, and his father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, had approached him during his imprisonment, seeking N10m to secure a presidential pardon.

In response, Falana and Falz issued a cease-and-desist letter on October 16, 2024, demanding a retraction and public apology for what they termed defamatory statements.

______Bobrisky, however, denied making the claims, stating that he was not responsible for the leaked content and urging the Falanas to hold VDM accountable instead.
