Adewole Adebayo signs national peace accords
SDP presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo on Thursday 29th September, signed the first National Peace Accords, committing himself to a peaceful campaign for the 2023 general elections. The accord was organized by the National Peace Committee.
According to the NPC, this is the first signing of the peace accord, while the second signing will take place in January 2023 just before the general elections.
The signing took place at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. The other presidential candidates who signed the accord were Atiku Abubakar (Peoples Democratic Party), Peter Obi (Labor party), Omoyele Sowore (African Action Congress), Rabiu Kwankwaso (New Nigeria Peoples Party), Kashim Shettima who represented Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress, Christopher Irene Imumolen (Accord Party), Hamza Al-Mustapha (Action Alliance).
The first accord signing intends to commit political parties, candidates and their spokespersons to conduct their campaigns in a peaceful manner devoid of ethnic, religious and hateful rhetoric to incite violence and further aggravate the growing security tensions in the country. Furthermore, it is also intended to promote a focus on issue-based campaigns ahead of 2023 elections.
