The Iconic Profile Of Osun Commissioner For Youths & Sports, Hon Lawal Olayemi Azeez

Hon. Lawal Azeez Olayemi was born on the 3rd of June, 1982 into the family of Late Alhaji Moshood Lawal, popularly called ‘Olorun Esan’. Alhaji Olorun Esan was a philanthropist cum business man. He was popular for his philantropy in and around Osun State. He served meritoriously in the Nigerian military after which he ventured into business.

Young Azeez began his academic career in ADC Primary School, Oke-Ola Apomu between 1986 to 1992 from where he proceeded to Ayedaade Grammar School, Ikire and then Unity School Ikire in Osun State where he obtained his West African Senior School Certificate in 1998.

Upon passing his WAEC examination in flying colors, Azeez gained admission into the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in the year 2000.
His sojourn in O.A.U was more of an interesting one, having being admitted to the Social Sciences Faculty, he bagged a 2nd class upper degree in Demography and Social Statistics in 2007.

He immediately began building his empire after graduating from the University. His first position was as Business Development Manager with Olorun-Esan Nigeria Limited, Owners of Olorun-Esan Petroleum (an Independent Oil Marketing firm) and a Major Distributor to Nigeria Breweries Plc, International Breweries Plc , Nigeria Bottling Company among many others in the FMCG sector.

He held this position till August 2008 when he had to proceed on the compulsory National Youth Service programme. He was posted to Oyo state, were he served meritoriously at the regional office of the then Spring Bank in Ibadan. By 2009, he had established his haulage business which grew to a fleet of about eight 33,000litres trucks in 2010.
Having exceled in his haulage business, fearless Azeez took a giant stride by venturing into the Tourism and Entertainment Industry. This birthed a redefining of the lounge business especially in Ibadan and it’s environs with the launching of GQ lounge, a subsidiary of Gentlemens Quarters Global Services Limited in November 2012.

The lounge which started from a single location in Bodija, Ibadan, now boasts of other outlets at the Agodi Gardens- Ibadan, Palms Mall- Fate road, Ilorin and many others being planned for other locations. The Ilorin outlet is unarguably the biggest lounge in the whole of Kwara state.

GQ Global services limited is currently contributing more than 2000 direct and indirect jobs to the economy of SouthWestern Nigeria and part of the North Central.

In an attempt to further light up the entertainment industry in the south west, Azeez also put together YL concepts and GQ entertainment which majors in organizing themed events aimed at promoting youth invovlement in governance. One of such events is the Ibadan Countdown Festival, the largest show in the history of Ibadan which brought the likes of legendary Tuface Idibia as well as the Don Jazzy Marvin crew to Ibadan.
Hon. Azeez also has investments in the agricultural sector.

Hon Azeez was the Osun state youth leader of the Social Democratic Party before he was nominated as the party’s deputy governorship candidate in last gubernatorial election. He is the current Osun State Commissioner for Youths and Sports.

He has received several awards in recognition of his achievements as a youth and his contribution to the society from notable organizations such as Rotary Club International, House of Peteru, The Alpha Club-Obafemi Awolowo University, the Oyo state government, among others.
