OSUN: Governor Oyetola, APC leaders call for intra-party unity
Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State of Osun have called for unity within the party, noting that division could affect the fortunes of the party and the overall development of the State.
They made the call yesterday at the New Year Get-together organised by the Director-General, Ileri Oluwa Campaign Organisation, Honourable Ajibola Famurewa at his residence in Ilesa.
In attendance at the event were Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye, Chairman of Osun APC, Prince Gboyega Famodun, immediate past Minister for Health, Professor Isaac Oyewole and some other chieftains and members of the party.
Governor Oyetola emphasised the need for the party to be made stronger, rather than nursing bickering, which he said could eventually affect the party’s fortune and the general development of the state.
The governor lauded the giant strides of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola in infrastructural development, education among other sectors, adding that his government was building on the existing development of the State.
According to him, things can only get better with unity and support for the government in all aspects.
He also hailed Professor Oyewole for his intervention on the ongoing primary health centre revitalisation in the state embarked upon by his administration.
Speaking further, Oyetola said: “We must not allow our party to be divided. We must all take note that I am for all, not only within the party, but across the state without any discrimination.
“We still have a lot of things in our hands and without unity of purpose, it might be difficult to achieve success”, the governor stressed.
Similarly, the House Speaker, Hon. Owoeye reiterated the need for every stakeholder in the State to support the government and the governor, in order to bring about more development.
Also speaking, the APC chairman, Prince Famodun said that there was need to improve the political system in the progressives fold in Ijesaland by mobilising more people into its fold. He insisted unity must be paramount in the political dealings of members, especially within the progressives fold to guarantee development.
On his past, Prof. Oyewole said that the Ijesa people would continue to support Oyetola’s administration, as the APC-led government has brought a lot of development to the area, particularly the ongoing water project, intervention on road infrastructure, security among others.
In his own remark, Famurewa said Osun has been peaceful politically because of the efforts of Governor Oyetola, adding that anything that would truncate the peace must be avoided.
He commended the governor for the efforts made so far by consolidating the existing development, assuring that more live changing initiatives are still in the offing. The Ileri Oluwa Campaign DG then urged the people to be supportive of the government through payment of taxes and fulfilment of other civic responsibilities.
