Ghanaian actress especially in Kumawood, Portia Asare-Boateng has asked young people, especially women, not to allow family and friends to put pressure on them to get married because their biological clock is ticking.

In an interview with Zionfelix, the actress, who wouldn’t confirm if she were divorced or not, said she was forced to marry her husband, Rev. John Wilberforce Aidoo of Grace Baptist church because, she was made to believe she was growing old.

According to Portia Asare, she had a child after secondary school and thought it right to have a father figure for her son by getting married but would have preferred to get married for love and friendship.

“It is very common among the Akans to force young ladies to marry especially when you are closer to the big 30. Everyone thinks you are growing old and should settle down.

“When you get to a certain age, you feel marriage is all but I’m telling you it is not all. Take your time, know yourself for sure because it is not child’s play. Marriage is all about sacrifice because you have to be selfless.

“If you marry the person and there is no friendship or love, it will be very difficult to jump the hurdles that come your way.

“You will easily give up and that why I encourage people to marry their friends or marry those they love because you will definitely get disappointed when you marry because your friends are marrying,” she said.
