Just In: EFCC to investigate Army, DSS, Police for corruption — Magu
The Economic and Financial Crimes and Commission has said it will now investigate corruption among law enforcement agencies.
Acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, who dropped the hint in Abuja while speaking with newsmen, said the commission was investigating allegation of corruption in the civil service.
“We are also looking at sister services. We will investigate corruption in the sister services, particularly law enforcement agencies. “If you check your record, you will see that we are involved in everything.
That is not to say that we are better than other law enforcement agencies. We are not, Magu said. He stated that it was not only the EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Department of State Service (DSS) and the Police that were saddled with the responsibility of fighting corruption in the country. According to him, all law enforcement agencies in this country were created primarily to fight corruption, every law enforcement agency, directly or indirectly.
Until the advent of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, EFCC was mainly noted for handling corruption matters involving financial institutions and politically exposed persons. In 2015, the commission delved into sleaze in arms procurement for the army and docked high ranking military chiefs, resulting in conviction of some.
Currently, the commission is wagging an all-out war against internet fraudsters, popularly referred to as Yahoo boys, and collaborated with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in a recent operation codenamed Operation Rewired.
