As directed by the Federal Government of Nigeria since 1973, the Nigerian Army is to squire land across the 36 States including Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory for official purpose.
It’s been called to our attention, OSUN REPORTERS, how what they called “Government Land” are being utilized by the Nigerian Army in many States of the federation, where land is been sold by the agent of Nigeria Army for private use.
Below are part of the affected States/towns;
– Kaduna
– Bauchi
– Warri
– Jos
– Osogbo
– Oweri
– Lagos
– Calaba
– Abuja (federal capital territory) with different prices among which Osogbo metropolis cost about three hundred and seventy-five thousand naira N375,000 (military price) per 750-square meters, while civilian Prince is five-hundred and twenty-five thousand naira per 750-square meters within Osogbo, Olorunda, Boripe, Obokun and Ifelodun local governments of Osun State, while the money to acquire such land is payable to two different account numbers of Diamond Bank (names and account numbers withheld).
According to a reliable source in Osun State, most of the land occupied by the Nigerian Army were allegedly not properly acquired under law, while part of the land were being sold to individuals by Nigerian Army Properties Limited (NAPL) for personal use at different prices according to their jurisdiction for profits without the consent of the Federal Government.
In Osogbo, the Osun State Capital, Kelebe-Omu Landowners Association measuring approximately 3,646 Acres of land belonging to them and their respective families is allegedly encroached by the Nigerian Army.
On the first side of the affected land is Osogbo city in both Osogbo and Olorunda local Governments; on the second side is Iragbiji in Boripe Local Government; on the third side is Ikirun in Ifelodun Local Government; while the fourth side is Ilesa in Obokun Local Government all in Osun State, Southwest Nigeria.
As claimed, No notice of intention to acquire land was served on the respective land-owning families. In the same vein, no gazette publication and newspaper publications, if any at all, were served on the families.
There were no agreements at to whether the acquisition would be in fee simple or for a term of years; also, there was no agreement as to rent payable per acre per annum.
OSUN REPORTERS also gathered, that the agent of Nigerian Army have incorporated a private limited liability company titled “POST-SERVICE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT LIMITED” to manage the land. The said company, which is located on the land, has laid out parts of the land into residential estate and sells same plot-by-plot to private individuals upon purchase of a Post-Service Housing Scheme Military Application Form for a fee.
The said company, in the name of Nigerian Army allegedly issue permits at agreed prices, to members of the public for sand/gravel digging and haulage; construction of fish ponds; farming camps; hewing and haulage of fire wood; palm oil prospecting; collection of levies ‘Isakole’ (tributes) like oil, palm-wine, yams and kolanuts; felling of trees and sawmilling them into timber logs and planks; destruction of kolanut and palm trees within the said land.
The attention of the Federal Government of Nigeria is hereby called to this destruction and encroachment. That the Federal Government should take immediate action against its servants, agents or persons claiming through Nigerian Army from further allocating the land, felling of trees and using the land or permitting the land to be used for any purpose without the consent of Kelebe-Omu Landowners Association.
